Ingredients
For the Crispy Cheeseburger Egg Rolls:
- 1 tablespoon olive oil (for cooking ground beef)
- 1 pound ground beef (90/10 lean is recommended, but 80/20 works great too)
- ¼ cup yellow onion, diced (white or sweet onion are also good choices)
- â…“ teaspoon salt
- â…“ teaspoon ground black pepper
- â…“ teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- ½ cup ketchup
- ½ cup pickles, diced (dill pickle relish can be used as a substitute)
- ½ cup cooked bacon crumbles (store-bought for convenience!)
- 4 slices American cheese (for that signature melty creaminess; cheddar or your favorite cheese can be substituted)
- 12 egg roll wrappers (found in the refrigerated produce section; spring roll wrappers also work)
- ½ cup cold water (for sealing the wrappers)
- ½ teaspoon olive oil (for brushing the egg rolls before air frying)
For the Tangy Dipping Sauce:
- 1 cup mayonnaise
- ½ cup ketchup
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- ½ teaspoon smoked paprika
- â…“ teaspoon ground black pepper
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
Instructions
1. Prepare Your Dipping Sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, smoked paprika, black pepper, and garlic powder until well combined. Cover and refrigerate while you prepare the egg rolls – this allows the flavors to meld beautifully.
2. Cook the Cheeseburger Filling: Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a medium skillet over medium heat. Add the ground beef and diced onions. Cook for about 10 minutes, breaking up the ground beef with a spoon until it’s no longer pink and the onions are soft and translucent.
3. Flavor the Filling: Stir in the salt, pepper, garlic powder, Worcestershire sauce, ketchup, diced pickles, and cooked bacon crumbles. Mix thoroughly. Add the American cheese slices and continue stirring until the cheese has completely melted and everything is well blended. Let the mixture simmer for about 3 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the filling has slightly thickened. Remove from heat.
4. Preheat Your Air Fryer: Preheat your air fryer to 380°F (195°C) and set the timer for 10 minutes.
5. Assemble the Egg Rolls: Lay an egg roll wrapper flat on a clean surface. Lightly moisten the outer edges of the wrapper with cold water. Place about 2 tablespoons of the cheeseburger filling in the center of the wrapper. Fold the bottom corner of the wrapper over the filling, then fold in the left and right outer edges. Continue to roll the wrapper up tightly to form a neat egg roll. (For a visual guide, refer to the video or step-by-step photos in the original post!)
6. Prepare for Air Frying: Lightly brush the outside of each assembled egg roll with olive oil. This helps achieve that beautiful golden crisp.
7. Air Fry to Perfection: Carefully place the egg rolls in your preheated air fryer in a single layer, ensuring they do not touch. Air fry for 8 to 10 minutes, or until they are golden brown and perfectly crispy. Remember to flip the egg rolls halfway through the cooking time for even crispness. If cooking in batches, avoid overcrowding the air fryer.
8. Serve and Enjoy: Remove the crispy egg rolls from the air fryer and let them cool for a few minutes. Serve warm with your homemade dipping sauce!
Notes
- Air Fryer Variations: All air fryers differ slightly in wattage and design. The cooking times provided are a guide; you may need to adjust based on your specific air fryer model.
- Preheating is Key: For the crispiest results, always preheat your air fryer. If you skip this step, you might need to add an extra 2-3 minutes to the cooking time.
- Don’t Overcrowd: Air fry in batches to ensure proper air circulation. A single layer with space between each egg roll is crucial for even cooking and optimal crispness.
- Storage: Store any leftover Air Fryer Cheeseburger Egg Rolls in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
- Reheating: To bring them back to life, simply reheat them in the air fryer at 380°F (195°C) for about 2 minutes, or until they are hot and crispy again.
- Freezing: You can assemble and freeze these uncooked egg rolls for later. Place in a single layer on a baking sheet, freeze until solid, then transfer to a freezer-safe bag. Air fry from frozen, adding a few extra minutes to the cook time.
